DOE: Deadline to Submit Governor's Academy for School Leadership Nominations

Audience: Directors of Schools

Directors of schools may nominate fellows and mentors for the next cohort of the Governor’s Academy for School Leadership (GASL) beginning Aug. 15. Fellows must be current assistant principals who are aspiring principals and preferably within their first three years of administrative experience. Mentors should be outstanding veteran principals.

GASL is a unique partnership between local school districts, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, and the Tennessee Department of Education to conduct a statewide aspiring principal’s academy. A cohort of 20-25 current assistant principals from across the state will be selected to participate in the second cohort of the year-long fellowship aimed at increasing leader capacity and supporting individual growth toward becoming a highly effective building principal. The GASL program includes an internship, monthly weekend classes, and a week-long summer institute. The second cohort will begin in January 2017. More information about the program is available here.

The nomination window opens Aug. 15 and ends Sept. 23. To nominate a fellow or a mentor, visit the GASL website (here) during this window.
