TDOE: Webinar - Strong Literacy Practices to Meet the Needs of All Learners

Audience: Directors of Schools and Elementary Supervisors, Principals, and Educators

Literacy instruction is, and has been, a top priority for teachers and schools across Tennessee. Last year, the department published the Vision for Third Grade Reading Proficiency as a first step toward defining what proficiency looks like for students in the early grades and beyond.

In May, the department will release a practical guidance document called Teaching Literacy in Tennessee. The commissioner will provide an overview of this document during the May virtual meeting with directors. Then, she will officially kick off our Teaching Literacy in Tennessee work via a webinar with educators on May 18. Subsequently, the department will facilitate a summer learning series of webinars, with each session focused on exploring a different part of the document. The summer learning series will culminate with regional, in-person events (with a webinar option) on literacy unit design information.

We recommend this learning series for pre-K through grade 4 teachers and school leaders, and we would appreciate directors' support in sharing this information with local communities.
