Curriculum adoption is one of the most important instructional leadership decisions a school system makes, but adoption alone does not ensure stronger teaching or improved student outcomes.

School and system leaders must be fully involved in both the adoption process and the ongoing implementation work that follows so they can help determine instructional priorities, communicate the purpose for change, align curriculum decisions to district goals, support educators, monitor classroom use, and respond to evidence of impact.

In this two-hour TASL event provided by Imagine Learning, district and school leaders will examine why curriculum implementation cannot be delegated solely to teachers or vendor representatives; instead, it requires active leadership from superintendents, supervisors, principals, assistant principals, and curriculum leaders who understand the instructional shifts, stakeholder needs, professional learning structures, and monitoring routines necessary for sustained change.

Participants will explore practical ways to lead before, during, and after curriculum adoption, including how to engage stakeholders, build educator ownership, support high-quality use of instructional materials, and use evidence of teacher practice and student learning to guide next steps.

As a result of this event, participants will know how to identify the leadership conditions necessary for successful curriculum implementation and will be able to apply change management, stakeholder engagement, and implementation planning strategies to support successful curriculum adoption and sustained instructional improvement.
