Middle Grades Leadership: Supporting Students, Staff, and Successful Transitions

  • Virtual Zoom Event (map)

Middle Grades Leadership: Supporting Students, Staff, and Successful Transitions is designed for assistant principals serving in middle school settings. This professional learning opportunity will focus on the unique leadership responsibilities of middle grades assistant principals as they support students during a critical period of academic, social, and emotional development; strengthen communication and collaboration with staff and families; support instructional priorities; and help create safe, structured, and positive learning environments.

Presenters Jessica Adams of Johnson City Schools, Teresa Thomas of Williamson County Schools, and Christine Wilkerson of Millington Schools will share practical examples from their middle grades’ leadership experience. Through their school-based perspectives, participants will examine strategies for supporting teachers and students, strengthening communication and collaboration, using data and reflection to guide decisions, and balancing the daily demands of the assistant principal role with long-term goals for student success and school improvement. Participants will have opportunities to reflect on their own leadership responsibilities, learn from the presenters, and connect with peers around common challenges and effective practices for supporting students, staff, and successful transitions in the middle grades. While designed for middle grades assistant principals, this event is appropriate for school leaders in any role who support instructional leadership, student supports, and school improvement.
