Join TOSS ALI for Finding Your Footing: Data, Strategy, and Event Safety for New School Leaders, an 8-hour asynchronous TASL professional learning opportunity designed specifically for new principals, new assistant principals, and school leaders who are still building confidence in their role. This event brings together practical sessions on planning in a new role, using data to support learning, developing strategic plans that drive results, and preparing for event safety responsibilities that often fall to school leaders.
Participants will engage with vetted, TASL-aligned video sessions led by experienced Tennessee educators and leaders. Kristina Boone, Hannah Posey, and Caitlin Bullard will focus on planning, prioritizing, and leading effectively in a new administrative role. Melanie Peel, Farrah Griffith, and John Robinette will focus on using data to drive decisions and support student learning. Dr. Wanda Shelton’s safety session will focus specifically on event safety planning so new leaders understand how to plan, communicate, and coordinate safe school events. Topics will include the following:
· How new and still-new principals and assistant principals can prioritize the work, build confidence, and lead with clarity during the first years in the role.
· How leaders can use data to identify needs, monitor progress, support teachers, and improve student outcomes.
· How strategic planning helps new administrators connect daily decisions to school goals, district priorities, and continuous improvement.
· How data, planning, and leadership routines can be used to support educator practice and student learning.
· How school leaders can plan for event safety by clarifying roles, communication procedures, site logistics, supervision needs, and emergency response expectations.
· How new leaders can leave with actionable next steps they can immediately apply in their own school or district setting.
Participants will complete a minimum of eight hours of vetted training and submit final assessments to Dr. Wanda Shelton by the end of business on November 19, 2026.
