Supporting an Inclusive Classroom Library - October 6, 2022 (8:30AM-12:30PM CST)

Students who have access to an extensive, diverse classroom library comprised of authentic texts, read more widely for a variety of purposes, demonstrate more positive attitudes toward reading, and score higher on standardized tests of reading achievement. “The amount and frequency with which one reads, or one’s reading volume, has profound implications for the development of a wide variety of cognitive capabilities, including verbal ability and general knowledge.” (Dr. Anne Cunningham and Dr. Jamie Zibulsky, Book Smart: How to Develop and Support Successful, Motivated Readers) Join us for an interactive session as we explore and share information about the why, how, and what of classroom libraries.

Participants will:

  • Understand important facets to build and sustain successful and effective classroom libraries

  • Identify critical data connected to classroom libraries and learning

  • Expand and enhance ideas to motivate and engage students, encouraging classroom library usage
