K-12: The MOST Targeted Segment for Ransomware and Cyberattacks
PRESENTERS: Three Tennessee School Districts, and TOSS Platinum Partners, NGU and Central Technologies
The FBI and other federal security agencies released a joint report this past December that revealed an unsettling statistic for the 2020-2021 school year: K-12 education has become not only the No. 1 target for ransomware and cyberattacks since back-to-school, but it also makes up the majority of ALL ransomware attacks. And Ransomware isn’t the only bad news for K-12. Malicious predators are also disrupting learning through malware and disrupted denial-of-service (DDos) attacks.
Local governments and educational institutions are disproportionately targeted and impacted by cyberattacks and ransomware, but they usually lack the resources to mount aggressive countermeasures. Fortunately, although there are hundreds of ransomware families with multiple variants each, they share similar attack methods. Focusing on thwarting these common methods will stop most cyberattacks as well as lay a security foundation that limits—or altogether prevents attacks from succeeding.
You will leave this training having learned:
the primary types of cyberattacks happening in K-12
what happened to one TN district when they were hit with a ransomware attack
what local school districts are doing to prevent future cyberattacks
