Teacher Leaders - East

  • Sarah Simpson Professional Development Center 801 Tipton Avenue Knoxville, TN, 37920 United States (map)

For several years, leaders in Tennessee have worked in isolation and with a number of groups and organizations to develop strong Teacher Leader programs. This TOSS/ALI event will highlight successful Teacher Leader teams in our state who were nominated by their superintendents and then selected to present based on their highly developed Teacher Leader Programs.

This TOSS/ALI event will feature presentations from  a total of 6 Tennessee school systems. These systems will  highlight their work  and then they will be available as we continue to work together to improve this program in your own systems.

Dr. Paul Rainwater will be our keynote speaker and he will kick off our day with an overview of what Teacher Leaders can ‘look like’ in Tennessee’s schools.  Then we will hear from your peers.  September 27,2016 representing both Middle and West Tennessee, speaker will include teams from Collierville Schools, Arlington Community Schools ,and Clarksville-Montgomery Schools.

In Knoxville on September 29, 2016 we will again hear Dr. Rainwater’s keynote, then we will have the opportunity to learn from teams from Sullivan County, Blount County, and Hawkins County. After their presentations on both lessons learned and best practices, we will have break-out sessions where ALI members can learn from each other and share ideas. The day willrun from 8:00-3:30 pm and we have applied for TASL credit for this event.

Please join me and your fellow school and system leaders as we meet together to share ideas to improve our teacher’s ‘ownership’ of their students learning! There are few things that help students more than empowering teachers.

We have included the link to the TDOE Teacher Leader Guidebook below for you to review prior to this event. Bring teams of ALI members and be prepared to enjoy learning together. As always, superintendents are both encouraged and welcome to attend.
