Addressing the opportunity myth and strategies for rich classroom conversations

Explore key access factors that empower teachers to set and meet high expectations for all students as they strive to meet their next level of proficiency.

Examine national and local testing data websites and other research, we are able to understand more than ever how students are both performing when looking at growth and achievement.  Active discussions using live data will center around the achievement gap, equity issues, and steps that can be taken now that we have the information at our fingertips.

Focus on strategies for facilitating and enhancing mathematical discussions in the classroom that will encourage students to own their learning, build a growth mindset, and develop deeper conceptual understanding to prepare them for the challenges of the TN Core Standards.

Participants will engage in number talks, fluency activities, and active problem solving to learn more about engaging students in classroom conversations.
