As William and Goldberg (2008) noted, reading is probably the most difficult concept we teach early learners. So how can you ensure young readers develop the foundational literacy skills needed to achieve both grade level proficiency and future academic success?

Day 1 – Building the Foundation for Literacy Fall 2021

  • Explore an empirically validated progression for early literacy acquisition

  • Identify the most critical foundational literacy skills in the Tennessee Academic Standards

  • Examine the most challenging early literacy skills that can impact future learning

  • Support the Reading 360˚ initiative with explicit and systematic phonics instruction

Day 2 – Building Upon Foundational Literacy  with Learning Progressions Fall 2021

  • Put foundational skills into action to guide literacy development

  • Drive instruction with literacy “Learning Progressions” built for Tennessee

  • Discover best practices to guide readers to grade-level proficiency

  • Learn strategies to guide ongoing growth as students progress through every grade level
