In 2021, women may not need other women to help them get a job in educational leadership, but they certainly can use the coaching and mentorship of their colleagues to prepare for and to perform in those jobs. Four years ago, the TOSS ALI agenda added a Women in Educational Leadership event to our schedule each year. The first three were held in the three grand divisions of our state, and featured college deans, professors, superintendents, and professional partners who shared their journeys. Last year, we were to have had a retreat in a state park to bring us all together, but COVID 19 had other plans. Given a year to re-vamp and re-start, and with the help of some amazing women, I am happy to introduce the Women and Leadership Cohort 2021- 2022: Coaching, Creating, and Coping ( TRIPLE C). The first of three meetings for women and by women in the cohort will be held on May 7, 2021. We will meet virtually and the event will allow attendees to receive 4 TASL credit hours.
It will feature Dr. Melanie Miller as our opening speaker. As many of you know, Dr. Miller comes to us from the superintendency and will share her experiences with COACHING both in schools, in her career, and in the community. We will hear from Julia Hoge, the counselor at MNPS’s Dan Mills Elementary School and she will present on COPING skills for leaders and learners, and we will hear from Scholastic’s Felica Fowler on the topic of CREATING. Felica will help us think about creating a world that supports learning, leading, and bonding with fellow women leaders. The cohort will help us do our best in our current roles, and to prepare others to reach their goals as they ‘reach up’ and we ‘look back’ in our profession.
The Triple C Cohort will begin on May 7, 2021 and will meet periodically until May, 2022 when we will have a culminating event in one of Tennessee’s state parks. You may attend the May 7, 2021 meeting only if you are an SLI or an ALI member. You may also renew and/or enroll an ALI membership for the 2021-2022 subscription period and we will get you, and anyone else interested, in the next meetings after our subscription year ends on June 30, 2021.
This event will spotlight Scholastic, TOSS Platinum partner and a company that offers our students the opportunity to see women in roles that they can then aspire to reach themselves in the varied literary works currently found in our state’s classrooms.
