Instructional supports: How can we scaffold supports in our classrooms?

Getting Clear: Standards, Skills, and Strategies

It’s been said that when we are off a centimeter at the district level, we are off a mile in the classroom.

Getting very clear in the language we use at the district level and deepening our own understanding of key concepts in education can help us move the instructional needle in our classrooms - and the learning needle for our students.

So, if you’ve ever been in a conversation when the terms “standards,” “skills,” and “strategies” were used interchangeably, or you’ve seen evidence that there is confusion in your system around the meanings of these concepts, this session is for you.

In this seminar and workshop, you will learn:

  • Operational definitions of skills, strategies, and standards

  • Key differences between each, in theory and in practice

  • How these ideas intersect with each other and classroom best practice

  • Shifts in your instructional leadership and communication that can bring clarity to instruction and classroom practice

  • Instructional look fors to identify when you’ve been successful with these shifts
