Centering Student Voices in Restorative Practices for Leaders 2022 - November 2, 2022 (8:30AM-12:30PM CST)

In this session, participants will explore the ramifications of centering student voices in Restorative Practices. In addition to briefly engaging in a review of Restorative philosophies and practices, participants will also explore data gathered from qualitative interviews with alumni of an urban high school in the southeastern U.S., analyze to what extent an Emerging Social Discipline Window best represents that data and other student stories, and will finally apply their understandings of the Emerging Social Discipline Window to the context(s) in which they work.

Key takeaways from the event:

Participants will:

  • Say the foundational principles of Restorative Practices to a partner

  • Listen to emerging research from qualitative interviews with alumni of an urban high school in the southeastern U.S.

  • Examine interview responses and their implications for RP implementation

  • Consider the affordances of an Emerging Social Discipline Window

  • Talk with a small group to apply the Emerging Social Discipline Window to their own contexts
