Principal’s Cohort Event: Trauma informed/PBS/Restorative Practices for Leaders - November 8th, 2022 (8:30AM-12:30PM CST)

The TDOE’s Trauma-Informed Discipline Practices Guidance Document dated August , 2019 states that “Though  challenging, schools must learn to balance appropriate school discipline with school safety, classroom effectiveness, and positive outcomes for students affected by trauma. Clearly defined and effectively communicated trauma-informed discipline practices are essential for a positive school climate and setting the tone for all behavior. When administrators, teachers, and staff understand and respond to those affected by trauma in positive, initiative-taking ways, they help reduce trauma’s negative impact, support critical learning, and create a more positive school climate.”

For principals, this cohort training offers an opportunity to ‘rebuild’ practices that have been traditional and effective, but that might be improved with thoughtful planning. This event allows the building leader and the leaders that collaborate with them to see how Tennessee’s principals and supervisors are currently using trauma informed practices, positive behavioral supports, and restorative practices to support the learning goals of all students and to focus on school and classroom climate/culture more clearly.

We have three amazing leaders on the agenda for 11/8/2022. Mary Gilbert, Kim Frank, and Danielle Scarth will help you help your school reach its full potential by supporting student learning and teacher’s classroom climate. This is the training for principals who need that little boost to begin to think outside their current ‘box’, for the leader who has a great program already in place, and for those who want to become a part of a cohort group of school leaders.
