  • University of Memphis - Lambuth 705 Lambuth Blvd Jackson, TN 38301 (map)

Wilder Student Union Building/Jack Morris Ballroom

The Assessment Literacy training is intended for school and district instructional leaders (superintendents, supervisors, principals, lead teachers). Individuals are invited

and teams are encouraged!  Each LEA will be allocated one free seat. There is a $50 registration fee for all others.

The key areas of focus for the  day will be the research , design and key elements of assessment literacy as it relates to the effective implementation of a balanced assessment system . There will also be a focus on the integration of assessment literacy into the areas of effective intervention, achievement gap closure and the transition to the new TN assessments.

This training will link directly to practices reported by those level 4 and 5 teachers who showed strongest gains on last year's state assessments.

Examples used will be ELA though the concepts and processes will be appropriate for all subjects.

This event is a collaboration between TOSS and Battelle for Kids. The trainer will be Barb Williams with BFK.

From Johnny McDaniel, superintendent in Bradley County on the result of  this training from Barb Williams.

"It was an eye opening experience for our teachers as they learned how to evaluate an assessment item to determine if it truly assessed what the standard was asking a child to be able to do......Teachers were very surprised to see that what they thought were good questions really were not aligned to the standard."
