Safety: New Funding and New Learning

Superintendents, if you have any questions about the School Resource Officer grants and expanded safety funding, this is your chance to hear directly from the most reliable sources possible. Plus, there is new learning from Parkland, FL that will be shared. Bring your district’s safety director with you as well as your sheriff or chief of police if you’d like.

Brenna Morse and Mike Herrmann from the Tennessee Department of Education’s Office of School Safety and Transportation will provide an update on school safety initiatives including:

• Details regarding the new School Resource Officer grant as well as the expanded Safe Schools funding available to all districts.

• Threat assessment training and the new anonymous reporting application available from Safety and Homeland Security, along with suggestions for rolling these resources out as a new school year begins.

• Lessons learned from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission.
